When chicken farmer and scientist David Keet needed to purify water for his chickens, he discovered a 200-year old technology called slow sand filtration. His discovery led to the birth of Mainstream Water Solutions Inc.

“The base technology is literally passing water through biological sand and carbon. Naturally occurring microbes in the raw water and the sand and carbon filters remove the contaminants,” says Mainstream President & CEO, Doug Price. “The entire process uses no chemicals and achieves very high levels of purity.”

It has since progressed from water filtration systems for farms to small municipal users to commercial applications and finally to larger municipalities.

The Mainstream system also offers add-on filters that remove arsenic and uranium, which are common elements in North American water supplies.

With 15 employees in Saskatchewan and a dealer network across the west, Mainstream Water Solutions Inc. expects to grow annual revenues from $3.5 million to over $7 million in the next three years.
